Eating is always one of the most liked activities of a typical Singaporean. I don’t eat a lot but I m still a food lover.
Buffet is one of my favourite eating options. Y? Cos I enjoy choosing from a wide variety of food. My choice of buffet is not those eat all u can pizza/pasta/bba which the choice is almost the same. No. I like to go to hotels to try out their buffets (especially International buffet). I like buffet that includes dessert and the selection is an impt consideration.
Recently, I went to Hotel Rendezvous to try its international buffet. Sad to say, it was quite a disappointment.
There isn’t any good food there. The food are jus average. Not rely worth the price. Luckily I went during the promo (3 dines for the price of 2).
The signature dish there is actually it’s Laksa and durian puree. Laksa, imagine, u can actually get rely good Laksa at hawker centres costing less than $5 (usually just $3). So, why serve Laksa at buffet. Alrite, if there are a lot of selection and the Laksa is jus additional for local lovers, that is a plus. Anyway, I dun find the Laksa fantastic though it’s actually the must try.
The spread are namely as below.
1) salads
2) small selection of sushi
3) not very fresh sashimi (pls do not expect it to be as good as those from reputated Jpn restaurants)
4) satay (I tink so, cun rely remember)
5) few local stir fried stuff (eg, veg, chicken, beef, bee hoon etc)
6) fish maw (this is quite tasty, not soup, actually jus a stir fried dish)
7) Sum cakes (sad to say, they dun hv good cakes here)
8) Ice cream
9) Fruits
10) Durian puree
11) Durian mosse cake
12) Coffee n Tea (I like buffet that serve free coffee or tea)
I believe there are a few more selections but as the food are not fantastic, I simply can’t remember much.
Anyway, if I were to grade it, I would probably give it a 5.5/10. Price is reasonable during promotions.
I’ve tried quite a number of buffets serve at Hotel and to date, I still like Green House (Ritz Carlton) best – maybe becos I’ve yet to try The Line at Shangri la.
Alrite, til my nex post for more food options.

Life is forever changing n unpredictable. But I cun denied that I felt that my life is actually improving especially over the past 2 years. Crossing my fingers tat it will continue to improve as I age (hopefully gracefully)

3rd & last day of bday celebration
This is my 3rd day of Bday celebration.
Actually overslept cos I was simply too tired. The appointment with the café was at 1pm but only manage to crawl outta bed around 12.40pm.
Thus, called the café to push back to 2pm instead.
I tot the timing was jus nice, shower n dress up, leaving my hse around 1.35pm. A 25min drive should be more than sufficient to Orchard Regent Hotel.
The drive on the CTE was smooth n weather looks fine. Tot it would b a great way to start the day – sufficient rest, nice dress, proper make up.
Our plan was to spend a lazy afternoon at the Tea Lounge. As the high tea buffet starts from 1pm to 5.30pm, we tot it was a wonderful way to hv lunch n dinner together n spend sum relaxing time there. I even equipped myself wif a book and my game console, jus to ensure I’ll b occupy for the afternoon.
Who would hv expect, a bad jam at Orchard Boulevard Road (towards Regent) Just a short little journey from Orchard Cine-leisure to Regent, we took almost 40min. First (on the left side), there was a lane closure due to trees trimming. Less than 300m away, there is another closure due to some road works. On the right side was the construction for the Orchard Ion.
With buses taking up almost a lane, we only left with abt 2 lanes to move abt. This has caused a rely bad jam, which start to spoil my day.
Following tat was another unwanted disappointment - we cun locate the carpark entrance. Poor planning as we should hv look at the road map for the entrance.
By the time we reach the Tea Lounge, it was almost 2.40pm. Not a big issue though since our seats are still under reservation.
Of cus, I wasn’t in a gd mood anymore. Nt sure if it’s the mood or the food, but I dun find the spread fantastic. In fact, I find the selection kinda limited.
The seating was also not to my expectation. I tot it would b a very cozy corner with couch seats where I could lift up my legs. Nope. The seats we were assigned to was 2 single chair (like those old English chair). A pretty small round table with nice napkins n cutleries.
Food wise is ok. I wun say they r rely nice but not too bad. The spread is kinda mixture. There are some hot stuffs like chicken wings, roasted lamb, satay and a unique crabmeat in chilli sauce (jus like those chilli crab sauce and they added sum crab meat to it) serve in a small little pastry cups. None of the items are fantastic but usually hotels dun serve great food. Such stuff u simply hv to get them at hawker centres.
The bun/sandwich selection is not bad. Most of them in small little portion so you will be able to try all before deciding which u like most. The presentation is cute and they serve in different type of fresh buns/bread. Sum of them r actually quite tasty.
There is a very small spread of Japanese sushi and smoke salmon. The Sushi doesn’t look appealing at all. But surprisingly, it taste beta than its look.
There is a salad section whereby u get to mix your own salad. The set up is like a rojak store, only instead of rojak, they are salad ingredients (various type of veg, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, salad sauce and blah blah blah)
The biscuits selection is the worst. I cun locate the biscuit and was told tat they are all in the 2 tins at a corner of the pastries selection. Basically, u hv to dig the biscuits u like from the tin. To be fair though, the biscuits are gd.
The little little pastries/desserts are ok. Sum wif rely nice presentations. I like the chocolate fondue most. The fruits are prepared in sticks. 2 choices, the berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries) and tropical (rock melon and I cun remember) The tropical is gd, sweet n fresh. So shiok.
The chocolates are kinda disappointing though. I tried at least 4-5 types and oni 1 of them (should be hazelnut cream) that I find not bad, they rest are not rely my cup of tea.
They hv a special dessert for the day, sum kinda soufflé but I cun remember it’s name. It’s made from a type of Japanese fruit which taste like lemon & lime (mixture of both taste). It’s meant to be hot and suppose to be a must try (the chef would specially serve it to your table). I find it abit too sour for my liking but I do admit tat the texture is gd.
The worst of all, is actually the scones. I’ve read sum comments abt this pl before deciding on it. And there are comments that the scones are rely gd. Mayb I m jus not a scones fan, but I truly cun tell wat’s so nice abt the scones. It’s a little too hard in texture and jus lack the taste. I probably should hv go wif sum jam to spice up the taste.
Overall, I tink I’ll just give a 6.8/10 for the food. Ambience is reasonably comfy wif soft live piano music from time to time. It’s a gd way to spend a lazy afternoon if u dun mind the price (May bank has discount). They hv long High Tea hour from 1pm to 5.30pm. Good choice if u wanna skip lunch and dinner for a high tea.
I probably wun give it another try in the nx 1 yr or so. My nx high tea consideration would be L'Espresso @ Goodwood Park.
Anyway, tat's how my bday celebration ended, with us leaving the place at around 5pm. Full enuff to last mi for the day.

Recommended Dessert Store - Dessert Bowl
Dessert Bowl (一碗甜品)
A fren recommended this pl. Went twice and weren’t disappointed at all.
I would say the desserts are beta than those at the China Town and at Liang Seah St.- if you like cold desserts (I m not affiliated with tis store).
The pl is kinda small but if u do get to take one of the 2 sofa seats, it is actually quite cozy. The sofa seats can provide the view of the street and can accommodate about 6 persons (3 on each side)
Dessert bowl allows u to customize ur dessert. U can choose to add pearls or jelly or ice cream or u can choose to do without sum items (basically just tell them wat u like).
Most of the desserts are fruit base. A variety of desserts with mango and strawberries. There are also some weird combination like mango (wif mango puree) plus the glutinous rice n coconut milk. Not a bad combination actually.
I’ve tried quite a number of variety (testing my frenz orders), so far so gd. None of my frenz claim disappointment. (Except for the durian crepe/wrap, not rely nice)
My recommendations
- Durian moose (should b $4.50)
- Mango (+ mango puree) with jelly n coconut milk (should b $3.50)
o Usually I ordered without the coconut milk.
Most items price around $3-5 (need to pay extra for additional items – about $0.50)
http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/dessert_bowl/
Besides nice desserts, this pl doesn’t pressurised you to leave after your dessert. No doubt if you are those waiting for seats, u would feel kinda disappointed. However, it would b a nice pl to spend the afternoon or nite.
It can get kinda noisy though (small compound with cramp tables). So if u r looking for a quiet pl to get cozy, tis may not be recommended (afternoon mayb less crowded n noisy)
Hope u like the desserts as much as I do. But dun expect high-class dessert quality like Hagen Diaz ice cream or Goodwood Park hotel durian crepe.

2nd day of my bday celebration
16 May.
Becos of the late nite zzz (6.30am, I shud say an early morn zzz), I oni mge to drag myself outta bed around 1pm. Time is short as I m expected to be ready by 2pm (at my void deck).
I go abt doing the norm, shower, change, make up. But sum how (mus be due to the lack of zzz) I did everyting at a much slower pace. Can’t concentrate on wat to wear, wat make up to use, which bag to match n wat to bring ….. blah blah blah.
Anyway, despite that I was given more time (due to my lack of comm.), I still ended up being late. Only mge to leave my hse at 2.25pm. Haiz.
Anyway, I’ve inform my frenz of my lateness (luckily was my bday celebration so wud nt be commented of being late *wink) as still need to rush over to collect my cake.
Luckily cake collection at Mohamah Sultan is pretty near to Bugis. Was so worried when saw a queue at the car park. Luckily, we din waited too long (at most 10 min plus finding a nice lot). *lucky star shining on me?
Once found my frenz, we headed to Toast Box for kopi. Mainly was to share the cake as I’ve specially chosen tis cake for my frenz (tried it at company events n was rely nice). Price a little steep but once a yr so still deserve it (fresh fruits, nice texture, exquisite design)
http://www.thepatissier.com/webtop/
We basically did nothing except sitting at Toast box to chit chat. Wif 3 infants around, it’s not ez to move abt at the crowded Bugis junction, so, our options is often limited to eat n tok only.
But it’s ok. Jiajun was entertaining enuff to keep us occupy for quite a while. He even passed mi a small little present and sang the bday song. If he is in the rite mood, he can be rely cute.
After Toast box for almost 2 hours, we decided to head towards our dinner place. A walk over to Shaw Tower for a good pasta. Well, Creation is not open til 5.45pm. Thus, again, we found a pl to sit and rest the kids.
Shaw is not crowded, but tat oso mean there isn’t much to shop. Basically, I only tour 2 shops n tat’s all. Sit n tok n wait for Creation to be open for our dinner.
Sounded quite dull for a bday celebration isn’t it. It was as boring as it sounded, since I get to tok to my gfs (gals can jus sit n tok for hours mah).
Dinner was jus as good as it has always been. Creation has nv failed mi. We ordered quite a few variety and tasted each other food. Gd food with gd dessert for a gd price, wat else to ask for.
@15.20 nett (no GST n Svc Charge), u get a drink, soup, pasta n dessert (not those small little cake like Hans, most of us chose Brownie with Ice-cream.)
Sorry, I forgot to take pics again. Haiz, kinda sad as I’ve purposely reminded myself to take sum pics of the food n post on blog. Promise I’ll do it during my nx visit.
I tot the dinner wud be the end of the day, but my fren suggested tat all of us to drive over to courts tampines to get my pressie.
Courts was pretty crowded on a Sat evening (probably due to a sale going on). We reach around 7.45pm went straight to get a clothes steamer from Morris (recommended by a fren). As I’ve not tried out b4, I tot might as well get the one my fren is hvg. At least she has tested n proven it to be good.
However, the one I wanted was not avail and we were push from 1st fl to 2nd fl den back to 1st fl. (kinda pissed off as I expect to receive correct info, not to be kick ard by those promoters.)
Anyway, still the model I wanted was nt avail (but I mge to test the display set). Generally, it seems ok n thus decided to get the other avail model (cheaper, and the promoter claims tat it’s the same wif different design). My oni worry is that it’s not as good as it’s cheaper.
Nonetheless, I agreed on it since I din wanna waste the trip n source again.
It was almost 9pm when I reach hm after sending 2 frenz back. Not tired at all n was rushing hm to watch my soccer match. Luckily the result is still nil-nil when I get hm. Anyway, the match ended with Nil – Nil. But tat oso mean Man U won the title of BPL. Hahahahahaha, Liverpool can indeed stop dreaming ….. COOL!!!
Despite my tiredness, I din zzz til 3.30am. Hv been watching dvd to keep mi awake as I need to stay up to bid for an item on Ebay closing at 3.20am tat nite.
Went to bed winning a bid, burning my pocket (but happy).
Bday celebration can be tiring at times.

Bday celebration on 15 May
Hv been saying tat I would keep my blog updated but always push to another time. Haiz, rely bad of mi.
Just celebrated my bday over the wkn. Had an enjoyable time and thank u all my frenz for celebrating my bday n the free meals n pressie. Much appreciated.
I always look forward to my bday though it means tat I’ll b another yr older. Y? Cos it gives mi a gd excuse to mit up wif my frenz, hv sum nice food, eat a nice cake, making wishes n receiving pressies.
Actually, I wanted to write on my full bday celebration but it was simply too long tat I hv to split up the post to celebration by day.
This post would only abt 15 May celebration.
Start wif a free lunch treat by my dear colleague at Ichiban for Jpn food. Always one of my preferred cuisines.
Early knock off to meet up wif my ex-colleagues for one of my fav dishes – Black pepper crabs at Still road. Hmmm, crabs is always my top choice (abalone or shark fins r nv on my fav list). Besides crabs, we hv sum other nice dishes too. (Will share the photos soon)
After sum nice food, we head over to Serangoon Gardens for dessert at “ Dessert Bowl”. This shop was recommended by a fren n after trying for once, I decided to go back for more. Hmmm, if u like cold dessert, tis is one pl u should consider. I’ll write more about tis place in another post.
As usual, becos of late comers, we ended up staying at tis pl for 4 hrs plus. It was at 12mn tat we decided to end for day until a suggestion for mahjong session. It was rely funny, considering such a last min decision. We dun hv a venue to play n mahjong table is our biggest prob. We actually has to call around to see if we can borrow one. Amazing, end up my fren manage to buy a MJ table at 12.30mn from one of his neighbourhood store. *clap
Anyway, we ended up playing at my hse kitchen (din even realized tat I’ve a MJ table at my hse). Not too bad, since I’ve got proper chairs, table, chips, MJ n drinks.
The MJ lasted til 6am (finally get to zzz ard 6.30am). I tot I’ll die out of tiredness soon. Hv not been sleeping much considering watching last mid week soccer from 3-5am, n hv nt recover from the lack of zzz.
Anyway, tat’s how I ended my bday celebration on 15 May (til 16 May morn).
Nex post will b the celebration on 16 May itself wif my close frenz.

Hmmm, promise I m gonna to take lotsa pics on the food to show to my blog visitors. Will give the most truthful feedback on the food.
I might b going to the dessert bowl tonite. If rely going, I’m gonna take the pics for the dessert. The desserts there is rely nt bad. Was recommended by sum frenz while dining at Chomp Chomp last wkn.
Hahaha, from the coming activities, seems like I can update tis blog wif quite a number of food items.
Hope is useful to my blog visitors.
